It seems that this meetup is not well attended. The hot weather has not helped for sure. I hope more cairn owners will want to attend as the weather gets cooler. Roy and I will be there tomorrow at 9 am with Tucker and Bette. I hope this meetup does not go away. Any thoughts on this? Meetup time should be 9am during hot months thru I would say October. Good old Houston...

I understand your frustration with the temperature problem. I love the dog park out at Bill Archer; it was planned out beautifully. However, transportation is a problem for my pet and I. Is there anyone out there interested in holding a meeting at Discovery Green, Herman or Memorial Park? There is a fenced in area at Herman Park where the Asian pagoda is located next to the rose garden. I would definitely be more pro active in attending once the weather cools down.

I totally understand your concerns. We use to have the meetup at the Danny Jackson Dog Park at West Park and 610 and it was better attended. Roy and I can easily take Tucker and Bette there as it is a straight shot down the West Park Tollway. We love the Bill Archer Park and it's convenience to Katy. Downtown, Herman Park and Memorial Park are just to far away from Katy. We also want to make sure we are in a park specially designed for dogs. Having separate parks for large and small breeds is very very important. Another concern is the size of the park. We found that the Millie Bush Bark Park and the Danny Jackson Dog Park are smaller and at times the dogs would bunch up and we saw fighting. We have never seen this at Bill Archer. Guess finding the perfect location for everyone will be very hard. Hopefully as the weather cools off, we will see more cairn buddies. Tucker loves to swim and Bette loves to wade. The warmer weather really makes them want to get into that pond for sure. Hope to see more cairns and their humans in September!

Now that you've explained the problem with fighting at other dog parks, I totally agree that Bill Archer is the best place for our meetings. I will just have to be more creative and reach out to my friends and family for help in getting out there. See you soon!

do you ever have meetups at Clear Lake Dog Park....no fighting, shady, no water feature - yet - 1 1/2 acre for the little dogs to play in...

Danine Panza is the organizer of this meetup and she would be the one to announce the locations and time for each meetup. Roy and I would not attend a meetup in Clear Lake since we live in Katy. Houston is so big, that finding the perfect dog park will be impossible for everyone. Maybe some other meetups should be started depending on the area of town. The Millie Bush Park and the Bill Archer Park are the closest for us to bring Tucker and Bette. I hope that when the weather cools ,as it is now, more people will want to come.

Our group is spread throughout the city and most won't travel that far south. The small dog area in Clear Lake is smaller than the Danny Jackson small dog area. I've been to the one in Clear Lake and my dogs (all 5) got very hot.....
Even though it's very far from me (I-45 South and Fuqua), I'd rather go to either Danny Jackson or Bill Archer. I would like to see more folks attending, but I think the extreme temperatures have kept two & four legged creatures indoors this year.

so the majority say clear lake is out? Surely there are enough cairn owners that some meet at clear lake, some BA, some Katy dog park, etc depending on where everyone lives. I am the organizer for the Houston Great Dane Meetup and that is how we handle our 3-4 meetups a week....I was hoping we could get the same started with these meetups. My little guys can't go in the big dog park and my great danes obviously can't go in the little dog park...I was looking for others that might be in the clear lake area that would like to meetup... BA is a committment and I only take my great danes there because of the size - they can enjoy the water feature... but I understand if no one wants to meetup at clear lake, because I don't want to drive an hour to BA or Millie Bush, etc. Just wanted an hour or so in the cool evenings with the small dogs....

I also organize great dane meetups at some pet resorts with fun grass and pools for the dogs. That is something y'all should think about....it is a great way to let the dogs go and have a good time....

I agree with you! Houston is obviously too big for one Cairn Meetup. There should be different ones organized for the different areas of town. Danine Panza is the organizer of this meetup.
